Who we are

The Brandon & District Local History Society (BDLHS) began in 2004 as the Brandon Local Studies Group – an informal gathering of people interested in the history of the small market town of Brandon, Suffolk. The organisation became a formally constituted History Society in September 2015.

The aim of the BDLHS is to explore Brandon’s historic past and and share our findings with the widest possible audience in a variety of ways. We regularly welcome guest speakers to our meetings which are open to members and non-members alike, organise field trips and participate in local community events. The Society also develops its own projects through which we research and interpret Brandon’s past in both video and written form. In addition we host social events such as quiz afternoons and our annual Christmas gathering.

The BDLHS meets at 7pm on the first Wednesday of every month (except January) at Brandon Library, The Brandon Centre, Bury Road, Brandon, IP27 0BQ (NB this postcode works well in Google Maps but SatNavs find it problematic).

Annual Membership: £10 (payable at our February AGM – entitles you to discounted and priority booking for all field trips and special activities).
Members’ meetings fees: £2 / meeting.
Non-members’ meetings fees: £3 / meeting
