Alfred was born on 11th September 1832 in Norwich. His father was Robert, a shoemaker and his mother Louisa.
He was baptised at St Stephen’s Norwich on 30th Sept 1832
He married Charlotte Bush on 8th February 1851 in St Stephen’s church, Norwich
The census of 1861 records Alfred as the stationmaster at Wymondham with his wife Charlotte, aged 31. She was born in Hickling. Also present were the children Charlotte (8), Sarah (6), Alfred (4) Alice (2, born in Nettlewell, Essex. Alice died on 15th November 1865. The Lynn advertiser gave her age as 8 years) and 10 month old Charles.
In 1866 Alfred was the stationmaster at Fakenham and gave evidence in the case of Walter Osborn and Joshua Cadywold, who were accused of stealing a gallon and a half of ale from a cask on a goods wagon.
In 1871 he was the station master for Brandon. With him at the station were his wife, Charlotte and their children Charlotte (18, born in Norwich), Sarah (16, born in Norwich), Alfred (12, born in Buckenham) Charles (10, born in Attleborough) and Edith (5, born in Fakenham)
In 1881 the census tells us that Alfred was a railway clerk, living at 149 St Thomas rd, Islington with his wife, daughters chralotte and Edith and their son Alfred.
Charlotte senior died on the 2nd September 1882
On the census return of 5th April 1891 Alfred is recorded as a caretaker of houses to let, living at 11 Highbury Grove, Islington. His death was recorded in the second quarter of 1898 in Islington.
