George Frederick Soloman was born in 1846 in Carlton Colville, Suffolk the eldest child of John and Mary Ann Soloman. In the census of April 1861 George was described as a “School Assistant”, living at home with his parents, sister and six brothers.
According to his obituary in the Bury Free Press of 26th April 1924, George joined the Great Eastern Railway in 1867. He reached the rank of station-master, in which capacity he served at Kirby Cross, Elmham and Aylsham. George was appointed as station-master for Brandon in 1899 and remained in post until his retirement on 31st December 1910.
On 17th October 1869 George married Mary Clark at Christ church in Stratford, Essex.
On the census of April 1871, George is described as a Clerk for the Great Eastern Railway. He and Mary live at 69 Paul Street, West Ham.
In 1881, George is the station master at Kirby Cross in Essex, living with his wife and children, George and Edith, at the Railway Station.
The census return of April 1891 shows George, the stationmaster, living on Norwich Road, Aylsham with his wife Mary and their three children George, aged 17, Edith (16) and Marion (5) The electoral register confirms that their home was the railway station. They stay there until George was appointed as station-master for Brandon in 1899.
In 1901, George and Mary were living in the Station House with their daughter Marion.
On 5th July 1906 George & Mary’s son George Edwin Soloman married Lucy Katherine Bloomfield at St Peter’s church. After a short time working for the railway, George Junior joined J Lyons & Co and worked at their London offices.

Following George’s retirement, the family moved to Rose Cottage, 90 High Street. The 1911 census shows George and Mary living there with Marion, by now a Supplementary Teacher at Weeting school and their 14 year old nephew Ephraim, a schoolboy.
In 1921 Ephraim has left and they have a boarder, Florence Amelia Taylor. Florence is a teacher at Brandon Elementary School.
He died on 18th April 1924 and was buried in Weeting on the following Tuesday, 22nd April.
Mary died in February 1932, aged 84. She is also buried in Weeting churchyard.
