September meeting report

Blog

The September meeting was well attended and we welcomed a new guest. It is heartening to note that the number of people joining us seems to be increasing each month which can only be due to word of mouth.

Leigh D. shared with the meeting that as the return of the venue keys had been requested, BDLHS would either have to meet on a different night of the week when a third party could provide keyholding or a new venue for meetings would need to be found. Also, the society would be required to find new storage for its archives. John Bo. then put forward a number of options for some short-term solutions (up until Christmas) but also with a view to the long-term future of the organisation. The group debated these at length and offered their own suggestions. It was agreed that a temporary move to Thursday evenings would be possible, except for the November meeting when a guest speaker had been booked. Leigh D., John Bo., and Wendy M. agreed to pursue a number of possibilities and advise the members of progress.

For the second part of the evening, Leigh D. shared some of her archive of Brandon photographs, maps and document images with the group. Members were able to add their own insights and connections with the people and places shown.

The October meeting (date and venue tbc) will feature John Ba. with an update on his research.
