On Monday 10th November, Mike Willett from BDLHS was invited by Swaffham Museum to give a talk to Swaffham History Society on the subject of Flint, Flint mining and gunflints. The talk was well supported with about 50 people in attendance. The talk was organised by Sue Gattuso of Swaffham Museum.

The talk started with a description of how flint was created and how it was mined. The flint knapping process was demonstrated and the use of gunflints in the Napoleonic wars was explained.
The talk finished with a short film showing some of the Brandon flintknappers from about one hundred years ago. After the talk there were some flintknapping related artifacts provided by Mike and Swaffham Museum on display.

This talk will be scheduled again in the Brandon & District Local History Society 2026 program of talks and lectures. Look out for it in the CALENDAR link from the home page.
